Oliva + Melvin | Elopement | 12.19.19
Sapphire Point, Dillon, CO

Carl Jung once said something to the effect that it's not what happens to you in life that matters, it's how you respond to what happens that is important.

Oliva had always dreamed of a Christmas Wedding; intimate, romantic white and shiny surrounded by snow capped mountains and family.  So when after 5+ years of dating, soulmates Olivia and Melvin hailing from Vidor, Texas got engaged, Melvin knew that a wedding in the  mountains of Colorado was the obvious choice to make Oliva’s dream come true.

A prior to the Christmas holidays, Melvin and Oliva flew out to Summit County, Colorado with their parents for a Short and Sweet Elopement. Being their first time in the mountains and the first time experiencing snow, the couple was gifted with the perfect winter weather.  With a fresh blanket of snow, crisp mountain air and clear blue skies, the bride had her dream come true.

At Sapphire Point on Swan Mountain, the wedding was about to begin. Before Oliva arrived, Melvin shared that he thought he would have been nervous, but instead he felt just the opposite... elated, excited and at ease.  With sweet music in the background, Oliva, dressed in a gorgeous white princess gown topped with a sparkling tiara was escorted by her Father to meet her mate. Melvin, handsome in a white tux, stood with a fixed gaze and wide smile as his bride took her place next to him. The Couple, now both standing at the wedding site, staring into each other's eyes, calm and composed, you would have never known what happened the day before.

On Wednesday, 12.18.19 their actual planned wedding date the best laid plans of mice and men reminded us that even when you have every detail taken care of and all the parts and pieces are in place, you have no control over mother nature. Due to unplanned rock fall mitigation between Denver and Summit County parts of 1- 70 were closed for a good portion of the day preventing several key aspects (cake, flowers, coordinator, photographer) from accessing the mountains.

Thanks Wendee Venetzze, owner of Custom Weddings of Colorado, and her amazing coordination team, she worked her magic seamlessly and shifted the wedding to the following day- same time, same channel, same station. The extra day turned out to be was a blessing, allowing the bride and groom and their family more time to acclimate to the high altitude and colder temps.

Wedding Vendors in this region Rock!!!  We all work together to help each other out; sometimes things are beyond your control- like snow storm or rock slides on the highway.

Memorables: Mountain Weddings Make Dreams Come True!!! Keeping an open mind and a flexible attitude are great tools in your toolbelt. Provide yourself with enough padding on either side of your trip to allow for adjusting to the altitude and unforeseen travel delays.
